About the Office
A public office under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation.
In operati
on since February 2009 when the founding section of the Data Protection Act 2004 came into force.
The
Data Protection Act 2004 has been repealed and the Data Protection Act 2017 has been proclaimed on 15 January 2018 in line with the principles contained in the European Union General Data Protection Regulation.
The
head of the office is the Data Protection Commissioner. The Commissioner enjoys a wide range of enforcement powers to assist her in ensuring that the principles of data protection are observed.

his office aims at protecting privacy rights of individuals.
An a
nnual report is submitted to the National Assembly of Mauritius under section 55 of the Data Protection Act each year.
